PAGDIG/IGDA Meet Up! 4/26 7pm @ Quimby Lucky Lab. Also introducing: The PAGDIG Microtalks and why you should give one.

Hello all. It’s Pagdig time again, this Thursday, same bat time (7pm) same bat place (Quimby Lucky Lab 1945 NW Quimby St.). Stop on by and talk with the local game developer scene over pizza and drinks.

Sometime soon in the forthcoming months, PAGDIG will be hosting the first, of what we hope to be many, PAGDIG Microtalks. This will be a cluster of 5 minute presentations by our local community about anything they wish that is game related. This is modeled on the Microtalk sessions at GDC, which are always fun and inspiring to take in. You get the best of both worlds: interesting content that doesn’t tax one’s attention span.

We will host this at a location TBD that has a projector and microphone, so any visuals that go along with the presentation can be shown.

If you are interested in presenting, drop me an email at salcedo dot dmitri at gmail dot com and put “microtalk” somewhere in the subject line. Let me know what the subject will be and I will try to group talks that complement each other into certain sessions.

See you Thursday!

PAGDIG/IGDA Meet Up! 3/29 7pm @ Quimby Lucky Lab (Plus Other News)

So, before I really begin, allow me to just get this out of the way:

PAGDIG’s usual last Thursday meet up is coming to the Lucky Lab NW on Quimby as usual. Be there around 7:00pm and be prepared to imbibe on some delicious pizza and beer. Oh and if you want to talk about video games… that’s cool too.

In other news, you’re probably wondering who I am right about now. For those who haven’t met me at one of the past PAGDIG meet ups, my name is Geoff (you could probably already tell) and I’ll be assisting Dmitri with PAGDIG going forward.

I’m not a game developer myself (not talented enough, unfortunately) but I have been quite active in the marketing side of the gaming world for the past few years as owner of DIYGamer.com and 8-Bit Funding. Both of which are no longer under my control. My goal is to bring my marketing experience and press contacts to PAGDIG to help all of you guys get your game into more people’s hands whether that’s a mobile, PC, XBLIG, or a what-have-you game… it doesn’t matter. Consider me your personal guide to the wild frontier that is game journalism and marketing.

The plan is to expand PAGDIG going forward. It’s been a great group to simply hang out and get to know fellow Portland area game developers, but the ultimate goal for each of us should be to grow the game development scene in Portland a little more official. How we do that exactly hasn’t yet been decided upon but rest assured that Dmitri, myself, and some other choice individuals are working on that right now and will hopefully have something to share about it soon.

In the mean time, if you have any suggestions or would like to be a part of this in some capacity please leave a comment. Oh and do note, the website design is something we’d like to tackle soon.

Next PAGDIG/IGDA Meetup : Thu 8/25 7pm @ Quimby Lucky Lab

Greetings good peoples of PAGDIG, how goes your collective summer? That question was rhetorical. What is not rhetorical: the August PAGDIG/IGDA meeting will be held on Thursday, 8/25 at 7pm at the Quimby Lucky Lab, located at 1945 NW Quimby St.

Come on by and hang out with interesting people and talk about game development while stuffing your face with pizza and/or beer. PAX is coming up soon, so I’m sure there will be plenty to talk about. See you all there!

Next PAGDIG/IGDA Meetup : Thu 7/28 7pm @ Stumptown Game Machine

Hello everyone, hope your summer has been great. The next PAGDIG will be held Thursday 7/28 at 7pm at a special location. Stumptown Game Machine recently moved into some swanky new digs and Andrew has graciously offered to host us this month. Their address is 1120 NW Couch, Suite 600 above the Henry’s Tavern. The entrance is on Couch next to Peet’s Coffee and will be locked at that time, so we will have people coming down to let people in at regular intervals. If you need in, you can also text my Google Voice at (503) 770-0357 with the secret phrase “hey let me in”. Some manner of pizza will be acquired, and the proceedings will probably move over to the Tavern later on in the night. There’s a lot to catch up on (conferences, game releases, miscellany!), so stop on by and say hi and talk about all things Game Development.

John C. Worsley at Stumptown has provided the attached office ambiance preview.

See you there,
Dmitri
